Assignment due Nov. 16, 2010
Consider possible, potential ways in which cloning approaches and
methodologies might be applied in, with, or to humans.(or human source
cells). You may use, but are not restricted to the topics listed
in the posted Power Point relating to human cloning.
Select two of these topics:
• one to argue that doing it is a GOOD THING and
should be pursued, and
• the other to argue that it is a BAD THING and
should NEVER be pursued
For each:
• Find at least one source describing the approach or
method that can be used as a source of factual information. If
you choose, you may also use sources that discuss the approach or
method from a pro- or con- point of view, to help you develop your
argument. If you would rather develop the argument without using
other published perspectives, that is permissible as well.
However, if you make reference to information, be sure that you cite
the source properly. See the citation page on the website for
instruction and format information for citations.
• Summarize the method or approach you have
selected. If you are using a single source for this, one citation
is sufficient. Do NOT discuss the source or the author or people
described in the article. Summarize and explain the topic; focus
on the information content. See the instructions for other
similar assignments. Be sure to include enough information and
detail to support your argument to follow.
• Make the point that this approach or method is one
that our society should either support or prohibit. (one
each). Support should include legality, possible governmental
funding, general societal approbation. Prohibition should be none
of these (inclding legality). In other words, you should take a
fairly extreme stance about the approach or method being “good” or
“bad”. This does not mean that your argument need be extremist,
nor based on far-[name a direction] views, only that you should be
adamant in your approval or disapproval.
• The length expectation is that the summary
component and the opinion component should each be about 1-2
paragraphs. Be succinct and focused, but give yourself enough
room to be complete.
• If you prefer, you may write these together as a
compare/contrast paper. It is equally acceptable to write them as
two independent essays that make no reference one to the other.
