Nucleic Acid Structure and Function “Portfolio” part II

For all components of the “portfolio” assignment series:
•    hand drawing is required
•    any explanations longer than a sentence must be typed
•    labeling and short explanations may be neatly handwritten
•    everything must be neat and legible
•    drawings should be sufficiently large and spread out that all components are easily distinguished and sufficient detail is included
•    no cut and paste from hard copy sources or electronic sources

I.  Draw         due Jan 28, 2010
    •    each of the 4 nucleotides commonly found in DNA
    •    each of the 4 commonly found in RNA
•    Draw at least one in each group as a
    •    nucleoside monophosphate
    •    nucleoside diphosphate
    •    nucleoside triphosphate

II.  Draw double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) in which the first strand is T-C-G-A    due Jan 28, 2010

III.  Draw the RNA which would be transcribed from that DNA.        due Jan 28, 2010

IV.  Draw replication;  include (minimally)        due Feb 2, 2010
•    leading and lagging strand
•    primer
•    the several different proteins involved, showing what they do; include (minimally)
    •    2 topoisomerases
    •    2 DNA polymerases
    •    primase
    •    ssDNAbp
    •    ligase
•    label each component of the system clearly
