What You Should Do If
The Class You Want To Take Is Full
I
appreciate your interest in taking my one of my classes. The demand for classes
has grown enormously over the last few years as a direct result of California’s
budget crisis, and you may be facing a situation in which a class you need has
no available seats. If this is the case, I have two suggestions:
1. PUT YOUR NAME ON THE PRIORITY ADD LIST
You should put your name on the Priority Add
List (PAL) for the class. Not all instructors use the PAL system, but I do. If
there are open seats on the first day of class or on the day of orientation
(this is common due to no-shows), I will give those seats to students on the
PAL who are present in the order in
which their names appear.
To put your name on the PAL for a
class, you must attempt to register for the class using MySite. The computer will inform you that the class
is closed and then prompt you to put your name on the PAL. Remember, you must
attend the first class meeting to petition the class even though your name is on the PAL.
If you are petitioning for my online
classes, you must put your name on the PAL and attend the orientation listed
on the main page.
2. CHECK THE
ONLINE SCHEDULE OF CLASSES DAILY
Even
if you put your name on the PAL, you should check the schedule of classes
frequently to see if a seat has become available. Occasionally students change
their mind about taking a class and withdraw before the first day. If that
happens, the class status will change to OPEN and anyone may grab the available
seat. Students on the PAL do not get
priority for seats that become available this way.
